Bay to Bay Flotilla - June 23, 2012

The flotilla is part of Bristol’s support for the McNab/Braeside River Drivers festival. The festival celebrates the rich logging history of the Ottawa River, the industry and the legends created.  Period logging/lumberjack/voyageur regalia appreciated but not mandatory.

It has been a busy summer so far, right after the Studio Tour, I was asked to display my art at the Bay to Bay Flotilla in Norway Bay.  Shannon Purcell and I displayed our art in the park. There were other booths on the Norway Bay Pier.  I went out for a little while and took a few pics.

As a special feature for Norway Bay participants and observers, the W.D. Stalker, one of the last steam powered Alligator boats (a boat that can travel on land no kidding!) will be moored at the Norway Bay Pier for observation and Qs&As. As the Stalker is on loan from Simcoe this will most likely be the last time she is on the Ottawa River. Bristol’s Barb and Peter Haughton will be participating with their vintage
logging boats, voyageur canoes, and extensive knowledge of the Ottawa’s logging history.

Pontiac Artist Studio Tour 2012

Well the 2012 Tour is over and I enjoyed myself immensely.  All the visitors, the kind comments and the help and support from family, other tour members and friends (you know who you are Shannon  - thanks so much).  It's always a rush and last minute details that gets you going.  As another artist friend of mine has said you know you are alive when you're that busy getting ready for a Studio Tour.

I remembered to snap a few photos in the midst of all the comings and goings.

Thanks Karen Mulcaster for buying the first piece on the Tour 2012.  We are now Facebook friends and I smiled when I read on her wall "Bought my very first piece of authentic art from Cheryl Dolan in Quyon! It will get the most prominent spot in my living room, when I pick it up next weekend."

I was pleasantly surprised when Jacqueline came back to purchase Country Girl 3  on her way home after visiting in the morning.

 Some visitors admiring the art.

Mryran Lafrance knew exactly what she wanted to see when she stepped out of her truck in front of my house.  "I have come to see the cows"  and she did.  And now one of my Country Girls has a new home in Hull.

Thanks to all the visitors for your support, kinds words and admiration of my art.  I love to create art but it makes it even more worthwhile when someone else enjoys it also.

You Are Invited to the Pontiac Artists' Studio Tour 2012

Pontiac Artists Awaiting our Guests

Be a part of the creative journey!
Pontiac Artists’ Studio Tour 2012
June 9, 10 and16, 17
10am – 6pm
Celebrating our 23rd year!

The Pontiac Artists’ Studio Tour is going green!

You can find an easily downloadable map at our web site www.ArtPontiac.com/StudioTour/ where you can also learn about this year’s 15 participating artists.

The Pontiac, an undiscovered jewel, is less than an hour’s drive from Ottawa. It is a rural area of farms, lakes and woodlands. Allow it to inspire you as it has the artists of the tour! Visit our studios and share an exciting and diverse visual art and fine craft experience.

West of Gatineau on highway 148, along the north shore of the Ottawa River in Quebec, the route will take you beyond the Gatineau Park, through rolling hills and west to historic Campbell’s Bay, into picturesque Isle-du-Grand-Calumet  and Portage-du-Fort. Don't miss our two new members off the highway in the small village of Quyon, a short distance from the Quyon Ferry.

The self-guided tour is clearly marked with the Studio Tour’s signature blue and magenta brushstroke signs.

Brochures with maps are available at stores along Highway 148 between Gatineau and Fort-Coulonge and also at the artists’ studios. A complete list of locations is available with GPS coordinates on our web site.

Mental Health Week

In support of Therese Helmer's initiative to Promote Mental Health Week in Our Community in making people aware of Mental Illness and having a walk through town with bells ringing "so that every child, parent, grandparent, friend and neighbour can hear the bells knowing that we support them all through difficult times.."

Here is my contribution - something I found on Canadian Mental Health Association Site. (www.cmha.ca)

Mental Fitness Tips

Daydream – Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a dream location. Breathe slowly and deeply.
“Collect” positive moments – Make it a point to recall times when you have experienced pleasure, comfort, tenderness, or other positive things.
Do one thing at a time – When you are out for a walk or spending time with friends, turn off your cell phone and stop making that mental “to do” list.
Exercise – Regular physical activity improves psychological well-being and can reduce depression and anxiety.
Enjoy hobbies – Taking up a hobby brings balance to your life by allowing you to do something you enjoy because you want to do it.
Set personal goals – Goals don’t have to be ambitious, but reaching them will build confidence and a sense of satisfaction.
Keep a journal (or even talk to the wall!) – Expressing yourself after a stressful day can help you gain perspective and release tension.
Share humour – Life often gets too serious, so when you hear or see something that makes you smile or laugh, share it with someone you know.
Volunteer – Volunteering is called the “win-win” activity because helping others makes us feel good about ourselves, while widening our social network and bringing balance to our lives.
Treat yourself well – Cook yourself a good meal, have a bubble bath, see a movie, call a friend or relative. Whatever it is, do it just for you.

The Canadian Mental Health Association is a national, voluntary organization that exists to promote the mental health of all people and to serve mental health consumers, their families and friends through education, public awareness, research, advocacy and direct services,  in more than 135 communities across the country.  Visit the CMHA’s new website at www.cmha.ca for more information on all aspects of mental health and mental illness.

Easter Portraits 2012

Just finished a fantastic Easter Supper at my brother's.  Love family get-to-gethers and taking candid photos of the family.
